Dear Friends,

Our community has much to celebrate as we gather for Thanksgiving this year.

A historic labor agreement between United Auto Works and Stellantis not only will reopen the Belvidere Assembly Plant but expand operations to add a new parts distribution "mega hub" and battery manufacturing facility. I'm pleased to have sponsored and passed the Reimaging Energy and Vehicles in Illinois Act that offered financial incentives that laid the groundwork for a $5 billion investment, saving and creating thousands of jobs that support families across Boone and Winnebago counties.

Over the summer, Metra was named as the operator for restored passenger rail service between Rockford and Chicago. The announcement marked an important step in passenger rail becoming a reality and progress on a top priority of mine, starting with the $275 million I secured to pay for the project. With stations in downtown Rockford and downtown Belvidere, the return of passenger rail will be a game-changer, spurring economic growth across northern Illinois.

Reflecting on these and other successes we've achieved together, let me take this moment to express my graditude for the privilege of representing you in the Illinois General Assembly. May you enjoy the company of cherished family and friends this holiday weekend and may you experience good fortune in the days and months to come.

Warm wishes,
Steve Stadelman

Stadelman urges pandemic-launched businesses to apply for new state grants

Applications for Back to Business grants through the Illinois' new NewBiz program open Nov. 30, and State Senator Steve Stadelman encourages local businesses that opened shortly before or during the COVID-19 pandemic to apply for the funding.

“COVID posed challenges for even long-established small businesses, but business that were just getting of the ground when the pandemic hit were among some of the most heavily stressed. With this new NewBiz program, Illinois is  finally giving these most courageous small business owners a chance to receive the help they deserve."

Businesses that launched in 2020 or 2021 and remain in operation have previously not been eligible for other federal or state relief programming since they had no established revenue base to calculate impact and corresponding grant awards. To qualify for the NewBiz grants, businesses must have opened between Jan. 2020 and Dec. 2021 in a "priority industry
" that was more significantly impacted or be a business that was started by an individual or individuals who became unemployed during the pandemic.

Applications will be open from Nov. 30 through Jan. 11, 2024, with all eligible applicants expected to receive a grant. For more information or to apply for the new B2B grants, visit

Congratulations to Chief Joel Hallstrom and the North Park Fire Protection Dist. on yesterday's ground-breaking for a new station on Harlem Road. I'm pleased to have been able to secure $50,000 in state funds to help pay for construction of the station, which will replace three existing stations that were built in the 1950s and 1960s and are now too small to house modern firefighting equipment and are poorly located district boundaries changed over the decades.
