Stadelman announces $1.1 million in state funds for local parks
State Senator Steve Stadelman this week cited more than $1 million to improve public parks in New Milford and Machesney Park as as the latest example of state investment in local assets that enhance quality of life in the Rockford region.
“Funding our parks and recreation programs ensures families have places exercise and enjoy the great outdoors," Stadelman said. "I'll keep working to bring back more funds to grow and maintain the public facilities and make our community an inviting place to work and live."
New Milford is receiving $600,000 from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to purchase and install new playground equipment, pickleball and other game courts, landscaping and expansion of parking and pathways. Machesney Park will get $506,150 to enlarge Stone’s Landing Park by purchasing as many as seven private properties.
Both are Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grants and were announced as part of the largest round of awards in the program's 36-year history. A full list of OSLAD grant awardees can be found here.
