DIRECT RELIEF IS HERE

Chances are you're one of the millions of Illinoisans set to receive direct financial relief as part of the Illinois Family Relief Plan supported by State Senator Steve Stadelman.

Good news: Rebates started to hit bank accounts last week.

If you filed 2021 Illinois taxes, you may be eligible to receive up to $700! Individual filers who make less than $200,000 will receive a $50 income tax rebate, and couples who make less than $400,000 will receive $100. Filers are also eligible for $100 per dependent, with a maximum of three.

Additionally, if you paid property taxes in 2021 on your primary residence in 2020 – and you make less than $250,000 individually or $500,000 jointing – you are eligible for up to $300. Your rebate will be equal to the property tax you were qualified to claim on your 2021 taxes.

If you filed taxes, you will automatically receive your rebate. If not, you have until Oct. 17 to do so.

To check the status of your rebate, click here and select “Where’s My Rebate?” You'll need your IL-PIN number to check the status. To find your IL-PIN number, click here and select “IL-PIN Inquiry.”

Stadelman encourages young women to apply for legislative opportunity

State Senator Steve Stadelman is encouraging local women who want a firsthand opportunity to learn about the legislative process to apply to participate in the Illinois Council on Women and Girls annual program. Selected 9th- through 12-grade students will receive the chance to provide policy recommendations on legislation that impacts the lives of women and girls in Illinois, critical topics such as health care, academic and economic opportunities and gender-based violence.

“It is more important than ever to give women a seat at the table to have their voices heard,” Stadelman said. “This council is a great opportunity for young women across the state who are interested in making a positive impact in their communities.”

Participants will serve a one-year term, during which they will take part in bi-weekly meetings to plan events and projects and quarterly meetings with different Illinois committees starting in December 2022.

Applications are due no later than Oct. 23. For more information or to apply, click here.

“This program not only gives a chance for future generations to learn about how the state operates, but also allows us, as legislators, to learn from the young people of the state,” Stadelman said.

Thank you to Rockford Ald. Aprel Pruntyfor inviting me to talk with 6th Ward residents about issues in state government including investment to continue to expand the Rockford airport, incentives in electric vehicle production to preserve jobs at the Stellantis Assembly Plant in Belvidere and increased state funding for public schools in high poverty communities like Rockford, which helps hold the line on property taxes.

Thank you to Citizens Utility Board and Rockford Public Library for partnering with me for another utility bill clinic, where local consumers had the opportunity to review their electric, natural gas and phone bills one-on-one with CUB advisors at the RPL East Branch. If you weren't able to attend, contact my office at 815-987-7557 and we can help arrange a virtual or phone session with a CUB expert. Stayed tuned for an announcement regarding our next event with CUB after the new year!

Two local businesses had reason to celebrate today. I attended a ribbon-cutting for Star Buds in Rockford, the first craft cannabis grower to open in Illinois, and presented an Illinois Senate proclamation to the Englin family (Brad Englin Barb Englin Dan Englin) in Roscoe, whose metal fabrication distributorship got its start 30 years ago in Barb and Dan's home.
