Stadelman-backed bill sends tax rebates to Illinois families
Illinois taxpayers will see up to $700 in tax rebates in the coming weeks thanks to the Illinois Family Relief Plan supported by State Senator Steve Stadelman. People who filed taxes in 2021 will receive rebates automatically starting this week.
“Many families are feeling financial struggles as we continue to heal from the pandemic, and this financial aid will help to reduce that stress,” Stadelman said. “Along with my colleagues, we passed a comprehensive plan to ensure Illinois residents receive relief and help them get back on their feet.”
Stadelman voted in favor of Senate Bill 157, which provides millions of Illinois taxpayers with financial relief – including direct tax rebates. Under the law, people who filed 2021 Illinois taxes are eligible to receive up to $700. Individual filers who make less than $200,000 will receive an automatic $50 income tax rebate, and couples who make less than $400,000 will receivean automatic $100. Filers are also eligible for $100 per dependent, with a maximum of three.
Additionally, people who paid property taxes in 2021 on their primary residence in 2020 (and earned less than $250,000 individually or $500,000 jointly) are eligible for up to $300. The rebate will equal the property tax residents were qualified to claim on their 2021 tax filings.
“This rebate program will allow residents to choose how they spend their money, whether that be day-to-day expenses or leisure,” Stadelman said. “If you do use it for leisure, I encourage you to shop local.”
People who didn't file a tax return in 2021 have until Oct. 17 to do so and claim the rebates. For more information on how the funds will be dispersed or to see qualification criteria, visit tax.illinois.gov/rebates.
Rockford receives $290,000 in Stadelman-backed economic planning grants
As part of Illinois' ongoing efforts to help residents recover from the pandemic and State Senator Steve Stademan's strong advocacy for the Rockford region, more than $290,000 in relief funds are headed this way.
Two local agencies will receive Research in Illinois to Spur Economic Recovery (RISE) grants to help them create or update economic plans to promote economic recovery: $150,000 to the Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and $148,916 to the Region 1 Joint Planning Commission headquartered in Rockford.
“Funding our local government bodies allows them to continue to support families and businesses around the community,” Stadelman said. “These grant funds help develop and implement plans to address the pandemic’s impact on our communities and provide meaningful steps forward for families and businesses alike.”

Rain forced the event indoors, but the North Park Fire Protection Dist. and Loves Park Fire Department held their annual Patriot Day Memorial Service. It was an opportunity to remember the lives lost (including 343 firefighters) on 9/11 and celebrate the 75 years of service provided by the North Park Fire Department.
