Happy Independence Day 2022!
Dear Friends,
As the July 4 weekend approaches, I ask everyone to pause for a moment and reflect on the "more perfect union" our founding fathers envisioned. Despite our present divisions, I still believe in our democratic form of government and the power of the American people to unite. I hope you enjoy the company of family, friends and neighbors and the many outstanding community events taking place this weekend, and I wish you a peaceful and safe holiday celebration.
Sincerely,
Steve Stadelman

$1.8 billion Family Relief Plan launches July 1
To counteract skyrocketing costs at gas pumps and on store shelves, a $1.8 billion relief package supported by State Senator Steve Stadelman takes effect in Illinois today. Help for consumers includes income and property tax rebates and cuts in sales taxes on groceries, fuel and school supplies.
"Inflation is stressing households across the nation, and I'm proud Illinois cares about working families and offers them a hand up in troubled times," Stadelman said. "Even with these efforts, some will still struggle. But the this relief package will ease their burden and keep them actively participating in an uncertain economy."
Illinois' Family Relief Plan includes a year-long suspension of the sales tax on groceries, a gas tax freeze and 5-percent tax rollback on back-to-school clothing and supplies Aug. 5-14.
Over eight weeks starting in mi-September, the Illinois Comptroller will issue income tax rebates to an estimated 6.2 million taxpayers. Single filers with incomes below $200,000 in 2021 will receive $50 checks and joint filers will receive $100. Households also will see an additional $100 for every depend, up to three. Property tax rebates of as much as $300 also are headed to homeowners based on the same income limits.
Besides tax breaks, Illinois is permanently expanding its earned income credit from 18 to 20 percent of the federal credit. For more information, visit the Illinois Department of Revenue website.
