Dear Friends,

I released the following statement Friday in response to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling to overturn Roe vs. Wade:

"The Supreme Court has basically ruled it's up to politicians in every state to determine a woman's reproductive health choice. No politician should make that difficult decision for her."

Sincerely,

Steve Stadelman
State Senator, 34th District

Stadelman lands $3.5 million to reinvigorate Davis Park

Boat docks, an urban beach, splashpad, skatepark, native garden and plaza with a canopy stage are among the amenities on deck for Davis Park, floated by $3.5 million in state funds State Senator Steve Stadelman has secured to breathe new life into the long underutilized riverfront venue.

The improvements, which represent the first phase of a larger redevelopment, are being funded almost entirely through Stadelman's efforts in Springfield. Construction of the boat docks is expected to begin yet this year.

Stadelman calls redevelopment of a logical next step in the revival of downtown Rockford, particularly with the recent transformation of the abandoned Amerock industrial building into a 13-story, four-star hotel. A private donation in the 1990s established the site as a festival park. Plans to give Davis Park a facelift to coincide with the hotel's opening in 2020 stalled, which prompted Stadelman to step in.

"I’m committed to Davis Park reaching its unfulfilled potential as an outdoor entertainment venue and an inviting complement to Embassy Suites," Stadelman said. "The more gathering spots you have in any community, the more it enriches life."

State pandemic relief to local businesses tops $4.5 million

State Senator Steve Stadelman has assisted with bringing more than over $4.5 million in COVID-19 relief to nearly 100 small businesses in his legislative district in Rockford, Loves Park and Machesney Park.

“Local businesses have bared the brunt of the pandemic, and we ensured many of them had the funds needed to stay operational,” Stadelman said. “Unfortunately, not every business survived and many continue to struggle so I urge everyone to buy local whenever possible."

Grants were awarded through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity under the Back2Business program.
