Stadelman launches Summer Book Club to keep students reading
To encourage students to keep learning during summer break, State Senator Steve Stadelman has launched a Summer Reading Club that concludes with an August pizza party for students who read eight or more books.
“We put together an excellent opportunity for young children and older students to continue to stay active with their education this summer,” Stadelman said. “This program helps prepare students for their next school year and hopefully helps develop a habit of reading.”
Students whose parents sign and return a form listing the eight books they read will be invited to celebrate with Stadelman at the Aug. 19 pizza party.
To receive a book club form, visit SenatorStadelman.com to download and print the form. Parents can also call Stadelman’s office at (815) 987-7557 to request a copy by mail.
Senator Stadelman reads to students at the Montague Branch Library in Rockford before treating them to pizza at the conclusion of his Summer Book Club in 2021.

Expanded home energy assistance starts this month
A new law supported by State Senator Steven Stadelman to expand access to utility bill assistance programs took effect at the beginning of the month.
Under Senate Bill 265, families earning less than 60 percent of the state's median income level are now eligible for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP). Additionally, the law establishes a priority application period for households with children younger than 6.
Stadelman voted in favor of the expansion to "help families who are still struggling in the difficult post-COVID economy and who are about to face rising summer energy bills."
LIHEAP and PIPP offer bill payment assistance to low-income residential utility customers by helping eligible households pay for their gas and electric utility service. Both programs are administered by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs.
