Dear Friends,
This week was filled with good news for the Rockford region, especially with Gov. JB Prtizker making three separate public appearances in town Tuesday:
-
The governor signed my legislation to incentivize Stellantis and the electric vehicle industry to invest in the Belvidere plant and across the state. (State Rep. Dave Vella was the legislation's House sponsor.)
-
We announced $2.6 million for local workforce development so AAR Corp. can fix United Airlines planes and create hundreds more jobs at the Rockford Airport.
-
We highlighted the state's violence reduction efforts with an unprecedented investment in community safety including youth trauma intervention.
Also this week, the federal government announced the Illinois Department of Transportation will receive $16.5 million to make downtown Rockford more bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly. Church Street will be reconfigured to reduce the number of automotive lanes and make way for protected bicycle and pedestrian routes, while the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant also will fund electric buses and charging stations.
Sincerely,
Steve Stadelman
State Senator, 34th District
Salute our vets for their sacrifice
We received two dozen cell phones on Day 1 of this monthlong push to support men and women who have defended our great nation! Help me reach a goal of 100 before Thanksgiving Day by dropping off your old cell phones!

Nice turnout for the Veterans Day Celebration at Rock Valley College. Ron Sodko talked about the Top of Illinois Stand Down which provides many services for local vets. A big shout out to Milana Herman for once again organizing the event. THANK YOU VETERANS!

Two years after we passed state legislation allowing for a Rockford casino, it's now open! The permanent Hard Rock Casino at East State Street and I-90 will be ready in another two years. Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen, who's helped promote the venue, wasn't able to attend the opening ceremony, but Karen Nielsen helped cut the ribbon.
