Beam-raising latest milepost in road to casino

State Senator Steve Stadelman joined other state and local officials, construction workers and Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen this week for a ceremony to lower the final beam in the steel frame for Hard Rock Rockford, the long-awaited casino taking shape ron East State Street and Interstate 90.

With the final beam in place, the exterior shell is now complete. The permanent casino is expected to open around Labor Day 2024 with a 90-foot replica of Nielsen's iconic checkerboard guitar front and center at the entrance on the grounds of the former Clock Tower Resort.

Stadelman was instrumental in passing legislation in Springfield in 2019 to permit a casino in Rockford after decades of numerous attempts had failed. Hard Rock Rockford is expected to generate millions of dollars annually in municipal revenue from taxes on betting for Rockford, Loves Park and Machesney Park.

Best wishes to Rockford-area students who are starting Northern Illinois University next month and were honored today at a "New Huskie Send-Off" lunch at Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens. The freshmen and transfer students heard from Rockford Police Chief and NIU grad Carla Redd and received congratulatory letters from me.

Thanks to Tradeswomen United of Northwestern Illinois for volunteering their time to paint the outfield fence at Beyer Field - Site of Beyer Stadium where the Rockford Peaches played! The 'Day of Action' is to help get the field ready for August 2-3 when the USA Baseball Women’s National Team will play a game as a tribute to the Peaches.
