Stadelman encourages young women to apply for legislative opportunity

ROCKFORD – The Illinois Council on Women and Girls is recruiting high school-aged women to apply and participate in its annual program and State Senator Steve Stadelman is encouraging women in the area who want a firsthand opportunity to learn about the legislative process to apply.

“It is more important than ever to give women a seat at the table to have their voices heard,” said Stadelman (D-Rockford). “This council is a great opportunity for young women across the state who are interested in making a positive impact in their communities. I encourage all young women interested to apply to this program for a chance to make a difference.”

The selected young women will serve a one-year term, during which they will participate in bi-weekly meetings to plan events and projects. Starting in December 2022, there will be quarterly meetings with different Illinois committees.

Stadelman encourages older adults to claim their property tax rebate

ROCKFORD – For older adults and retirees who were not required to file an Illinois income tax return for 2021, State Senator Steve Stadelman is encouraging residents to claim their property tax rebate of up to $300 by submitting their form to the Illinois Department of Revenue.

“Many seniors and older Illinois residents may not have filed their taxes last year, and this could be keeping them from seeing their tax rebates,” said Stadelman (D-Rockford). “Anyone who has not seen their rebate should check online to see if you qualify for this benefit.”

Under the Illinois Family Relief Plan passed by the Senate, one-time individual income and property tax rebates will be issued to taxpayers who meet certain income requirements. Homeowners who paid Illinois property taxes in 2021 on their primary residence in 2020 are eligible for the property tax rebate.

Taxpayers who claimed a property tax credit on their Illinois income tax return for 2021 (IL-1040) using Schedule ICR do not need to take any additional action to receive their property tax rebate. If they did not file an Illinois income tax return for 2021, they will need to take action in order to claim it.

Stadelman-backed measure sends tax rebates to Illinois families

ROCKFORD – Illinois taxpayers can expect to see up to $700 in tax rebates in the coming weeks thanks to the State Senator Steve Stadelman-supported Illinois Family Relief Plan.

“Many families are feeling financial struggles as we continue to heal from the pandemic, and this financial aid will help to eliminate this stress,” said Stadelman (D-Rockford). “Along with my colleagues, we passed a comprehensive plan to ensure Illinois residents receive relief and help them get back on their feet.”

Supported by Stadelman, the Illinois Senate championed Senate Bill 157, which provides millions of Illinois taxpayers with financial relief – including direct tax rebates.

Under the law, people who filed 2021 Illinois taxes are eligible to receive up to $700. Individual filers who make less than $200,000 will receive a $50 income tax rebate, and couples who make less than $400,000 will receive $100. Filers are also eligible for $100 per dependent, with a maximum of three.

$290,000 in Stadelman-backed grants coming to Rockford to foster economic recovery

ROCKFORD – To promote economic welfare and ensure area residents are continuously able to bounce back from the pandemic, Rockford will see over $290,000 in relief grants thanks to the support of State Senator Steve Stadelman.  

Through the Research in Illinois to Spur Economic Recovery (RISE) program, Rockford will see grants to help local governments and economic development organizations create or update economic plans to promote economic recovery.

“Funding our local government bodies allows them to continue to support families and businesses around the community,” said Stadelman (D-Rockford). “These grant funds help develop and implement plans to address the pandemic’s impact on our communities and provide meaningful steps forward for families and businesses alike.”

The Region 1 Joint Planning Commission will receive $148,916 and the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau will receive $150,000 to promote and spur economic growth within the community through RISE Grants.
